Wandering Wallaby Reserve Merlot
Tasting Notes

The nose of this oaked Merlot enjoys flavours of ripe raspberries, cherries and fruitcake. The palate is caressed with comforting flavours of cherries, liquorice and ripe berries with silky tannins and soft acids guiding the flavours to the finish.

Torrent Bay Pinot Noir
Tasting Notes

This wine has a deep colour, a perfumed bouquet of cherries, plums, spices, and a hint of cherry oak. Subtle oak tannins together with an abundance of rich fruit flavours combine to give the palate a silky, generous mouth-feel with a creamy finish. The fine-grained tannins and acid balance lend the wine structure, while the fruit concentration gives it depth.

Wandering Wallaby Cabernet Sauvignon 2003
Tasting Notes

The varietal nose of blackcurrants and raspberries leap from the glass and vie for your attention, this is overlayed on a subtle background of vanillia oak and just a hint of leafiness. The palate is rich in sweet fruit, yet exhibits a softness that carries through to the pleasant and long finish.

Torrent Bay Pinot Gris
Tasting Notes

A dry, fruit driven style, especially suitable to have with food, the wine has a slight onion skin colour and an aromatic nose with kosui nashi pear and stone fruit aromas leading to second tier undertones of spice and honey. A touch of spice leads into a honeyed fruit-driven palate with generous mouth feel and a soft smooth finish.

Wandering Wallaby Reserve Charonnay
Tasting Notes

This fresh rounded Chardonnay, of which 50% has spent 5 months in new French Oak Barriques, exudes aromas of vanilla, pears and bananas. The palate is filled with a rich creaminess and underlying flavours of white nectarines, peach and banana. The finish is long and buttery.

Torrent Bay Sauvignon Blanc
Tasting Notes

Light straw in colour, it is a clean, fresh and approachable wine initially delivering hay and straw aromas with secondary stone fruit characters. A nicely rounded middle palate introduces a citrus note with lemon and grapefruit flavours, leading into a slightly tropical finish with peach and nectarine overtones.

Mass produced and marketed wine, is there something missing?. Last year, for example, there were more than 30 million metric tons of wine produced throughout the world. Yet in America, the majority of consumers bought the same few brands they always have and probably always will. We all know the names of the culprits… and we all know the color of their tails (hint: they’re the colour of sunflowers).

Understanding why this is happenning: Wine lovers are constantly bombarded with advertisements for the same few brands, television and all forms of media, often from the same few importers and distributors, every day. Because of this, a sense of the personal, a feeling for what the wines actually stand for, has been lost. These days, it appears, wine is no different from any other commodity. And as a result, it has become lost.

28 Below Wine Importers is attempting to change all that. Indeed, in this world of mass-produced and boring, homogenized wines, 28 Below is a company that still believes in the personal touch, hence my preference for the telephone before email. We are a company that still understands the importance of passion and commitment when it comes to wine. All of the wines chosen reflect the tastes and passions of people who really care. And consumers can be confident that, whenever they drink a wine chosen by Jill and Wayne, they are drinking something that was chosen for one very specific reason: Because we both loved it and have personally met the people whose passion and hard work produced these wines and we were privileged they let us into their world to share the experience. Enjoy!
